Update on Tate

The front of Tate's all done, and I'm afraid that's all the cabling there is to this particular project. Contrary to the pattern, I've chosen not to have the same cable run down the back, so from now on it's just going to be miles of mindless 3x3 ribbing. I am totally loving the yarn, which is RYC Cashsoft DK - it's truly made for cables. A bit more detail on my blog here.

Cable Ready Bag

Hi, I'm Jen from CT. This is the first KAL I've ever joined. I'm using the Lion Brand "Cable Ready Bag" pattern substituting two strands of Caron Simply Soft Shadows (color: Pearl Frost). This is going to be a Christmas gift for my mom.

Finally, a shot of a finished front piece. The sleeve has reached the point where I can't really work on it at random, so it's moving more slowly now, but still, I'm getting there. (And I finally made it onto Ravelry, hurray!)

Nantucket Cable Sweater

Hi, I'm Judith from NJ. I've had this Plymouth pattern for years. Finally started the sweater for myself using RYC Cashsoft DK, which I love.

I've also found a pattern for the Lion Brand Cable Luxe Tunic that I want to knit using some cashmere I've been saving.

Tate - from Jaeger Handknits JB34

Hi everyone, this is my very first KAL. I wish I'd found this site sooner as I love cables. I've just finished a couple of cably projects, including a vest that took me half a year :) Now I'm knitting Tate, the cover design from Jaeger Handknits JB34, in RYC Cashsoft DK. So far so good! The yarn has arrived! That means Operation Cycling Aran is underway. Not very original I know. Now I just have to swatch in secret, cast on in secret, and knit happily away. . . in secret.

Progress on Kilkenny

I cast on 9.15.07
This is the back, and I've already gotten up to the first repeat on the front. This just may be finished and wrapped in time for Christmas. This is for son#1.
Future DIL is getting the Selbu mittens I just finished, and son #2 is getting the hat I just finished...better come up with something else too for son#2.

Starting the sleeves!

I received an order of KnitPicks Merlot Heather, Swish Superwash, only 8 skeins, for a different project. But when I saw the color, I knew what I wanted to do with it, and fortunately, a quick call to KnitPicks confirmed that more of the same dye lot was available - Whew!! It's on it's way to me, so I started the two sleeves yesterday (9/23). It's working up quickly, and holding my interest! So far, I'm sticking to the pattern -- but I will probably try to knit the back and fronts as one piece, eliminating the seaming. I'm looking forward to chatting with others who are currently working this, or those who have already finished it.

Here's what I have so far - many of my pictures will have one of 2 small boys in them. I am a babysitting grandma of 2-yr-old twins, and I can keep an eye on them better if they're in front of the camera!

The Aran Accent Vest from the Patons CABLES booklet, knit in Tess Designer Yarns Merino Worsted. I worked on this for quite a while yesterday, and I am about 3/4 through the first cable repeat. This is more cabling than I have ever done, and I am thoroughly enjoying the process. I see many more Arans in my future.

Tangled Yoke Cardigan progress

I'm knitting the Tangled Yoke Cardigan from the fall 07 Interweave Knits. Instead of starting from the bottom up, I started at the yoke area with a provisional cast on. Later, I’ll pick up there and knit down so I can adjust it to fit. More info on my blog here if you are curious as to why I'm doing it this way.

I'm also knitting a red cabled cardigan of my own design. It will have cables from just under the bust down, and gradually widen over the hips. This is what the cables are looking like on it.

Small Cable Project Finished

I have just finished these cabled mitts. I need to get the pattern typed up so I can get it in the mail. These are knit in Louet Gems Sport wt, in Sage on size 2 dpns. I have several small projects, with cables started that I hope to finish and 2 large ones. One from Arans and Celtics The Sensational Shirttails, and another from the last Fiona Ellis book, I think it is named A Gathering ??? I obviously have not looked at it in a while since I can't remember the exact name.

I can't wait to see all the cabled projects that come off the needles this Fall. It is great inspiration to finish mine.

The buttons were sewn on this morning but I was almost finished when I accepted and joined this KAL as well as received my invitation to Ravelry More photos and details on my blog and Ravelry

My next project will either be my second Must Have Cardigan or a new Aran Cardigan. I am really looking forward to seeing everyone's projects!

I may be a complete flake, and choose a totally different pattern.

Vintage Cables

Hello all!

This is my second Fall Cable KAL and after much thinking, I have decided on three projects. I am about to finish one that I started less than a month ago, so that will be my first cable-y project. It is the Relax Cushion, from Jo Sharp's Home book.

The other projects for the KAL are from two vintage magazines. The first one is a Cable/Lace Cardigan from a Fleisher magazine, dating to the early 60's. I am using a Portuguese yarn, Rosarios 4 Cantabrico, in denim blue.

The second project that I will try to finish is a cabled sweater, from a Bernat Handicrafter, dating to 1958. I am hoping to use Jaeger Shetland from my stash but I only have 5 skeins and the yarn is discontinued (anyone have an extra ball for sale/swap, in the grey tweed? please?!) so I may have to rip it but I am willing to risk it as I think this yarn and pattern are a perfect match!

One new project, one to finish

So far, I've found two cabley things that need my attention. One is the Wanderlust hoody that I started during last year's KAL and the other is the Journey sock. I'm still using Debbie Bliss merino chunky for the sweater and plan to use some Indigo Moon merino for the socks.
I'm sure I'll find more great things to do as the weather gets colder and I look forward to seeing what everyone else has on the needles!

Progress Report

This thing's a fast knit - even with minimal knitting time these days, the two fronts are done! Now on to the sleeves - I only wish they were knit shoulder down instead of wrist up, both because I would like to make sure they're long enough (which is to say, too long), but also because I really really like it when the number of stitches per row gets smaller instead of bigger. I do see one problem - once you've finished the fronts and back and sleeves, by all rights a sweater is done, but then there will still be the hood left. At least I started early enough that I should get it all done before the end of the KAL!

I did finally buy some batteries, but now I can't find the actual camera *sigh*. I'm cleaning out my library so with any luck it'll show up sometime soon and I can show off my progress in pictures and not just words.

Hiya from a chilly NoFla! As a note of introduction...I wanted to say hello and make a project statement. I'm planning on knitting Anne Budd's Tyrolean Stockings from IK Fall 2007, and either Eunny Jang's Tangled Yoke Cardigan or Cathy Payson's Placed Cable Aran (from the same issue). The latter sweater "looks" more like me, but Eunny's design looks like it would be so much fun to knit! Oh...the yarn. I'll be spinning to knit. The Tyrolean Stockings...will be a blend of Shetland and Gulf Coast Native - probably "natural" grey/cream. The sweater? I'm not sure yet. I'll either spin a blended roving...Mohair and Romney, or I'll card some Border Leicester and blend it with the Mohair/Romney or with some creamy GCNI.

A bit of KAL business to get out of the way.

This is in regard to posting the KAL blog. When adding a label to your post, please check the existing labels before adding a new one. If there is an existing label that will fit the subject of your post, use it rather than adding a new one. Also, I would like to keep the labels to Project Name only. That way visitors and fellow KAL'er can check out all of the beautiful Cycling Aran sweaters easily and quickly.
